Dror Ben Ami
An opportunity to look up close at the forces of nature and to experience anew the process of creation, to touch the spirit and to be reborn.
Dror Ben Ami offers us an opportunity to look up close at the forces of nature and to experience anew the process of creation. The visions revealed in his work induce in us a sense of elevation yet also of fragility and hopelessness.
Here we are given a moment to touch the spirit and to be reborn. We experience our internal worldly energies become challenging celestial energies. An exchange that holds the promise of the beginning of a new relationship with the forces that surround us.
Light and shade blend forcefully in the large-scale charcoal drawings. The sight remains with us as if we are dreamers beholding a drama as it unfolds before our eyes: “…Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever,” the voice echoes.
Whooshes of air and pillars of smoke draw us into the depths of the unknown in a monumental piece that sweeps us up, shakes us and then plunges us down. We are thrown into space where we are forcefully trapped by the sight, pulled into the far reaches of an endless space.
Ben Ami takes us on a journey into our self-imagination, transporting us, even before we manage to resist, to lost unfamiliar landscapes. This is a journey on which we embark full of curiosity and armed with questions, and so we remain at its end.
Rani Sasson:
An intimate, sensitive story of the artist's feelings shows us her personality and femininity. This is a story about motherhood and young orphan hood.
Sculptural objects verging on the abstract, closed circuit organ-like images, fragments or the scattered leaves of late autumn, these are the make-up of Rani Sasson’s intimate, sensitive story. Sasson shares her feelings with us and shows us her personality and femininity in a story about motherhood and young orphan hood. Her soft and controlled materials and colors prompt us to seek that which her images, with their opaque transparency, conceal.
The parts of the whole are ordered according to an internal hierarchy set in concentric symmetry. It seems to be falling apart and recoiling, as if trying to reveal a secret, yet remaining controlled and obeying the logic and internal relations between inside and out, center and circumference. The images of her work adhere to one language in a composition largely comprising a self-enclosing circle that emphasizes the difference between its internal intensity and the void that surrounds it.
Curiosity and wonderment join us before Sasson’s work, of a kind that remains wanting indication, intimation, clarification or interpretation. This, however, is fitting and provides a welcome opportunity through which all we can do is interpret the work in a way that gives it meaning for each and every one of us.
